The results are in, and they show that our 49 representatives from 28 Catskill environmental and community groups speaking with one voice made an impression on state officials during our February 25 visit to Albany. The tally: Our land acquisition priority to protect the entirety of Balsam Mountain was fulfilled when the DEC closed on the purchase of 560 acres of in-holdings (see the article). On May 20, 2014, the Coalition stood witness to the successful closure on one of its 2014 land acquisition priorities – the 590-acre collection of parcels that puts 3600-foot Balsam Mountain wholly in the Forest Preserve.  Kathy Moser, whose devotion to the Catskill Park has been extraordinary, represented the Governor and DEC as the three tracts were transferred into State ownership and became “forever wild” protected lands.  The acquired parcels lie next to the 1200-acre Big Indian Parcel that DEC has already bought and classified. NY/NJ Trail Conference to Provide Stewardship Volunteers

The New York/New Jersey Trail Conference, a founding member of the Coalition, and the Department of Environmental Conservation have formed a partnership to protect natural resources and enhance recreation in the Catskill Mountain region. Catskill Awareness Day Brings 49 Supporters to Albany

Forty-nine stalwart members of the Catskill Park Coalition journeyed to Albany on February 25 to meet with key assembly members and senators, Department of Environmental Conservation staff, and Governor Cuomo’s environmental secretary to advocate for additional State funding for the Catskill Park.
